Saturday saw the first of the major Cross Country Events for the 2018/19 Season. 43 Shettleston Harriers made the journey to the Iconic Irvine Beach Park. While Storm Callum had passed it was a very wet day with the rain not letting up during the whole day.
In the Senior Men Race the team of Lewis Raeburn, Weynay Ghebreselassie, Daniel Bradford and Lachlan Oates combine to pick up the West District Cross Country Relay title beating Inverclyde AC with Lachlan Oates having to run the fastest time on the day to get the better of Inverclyde’s Sean Fontana with the club winning by 4 secs. The B team of Jamie Burns, Tewolde Mengisteab, Paul Sorrie and William Bardsley finished 5th
C Team 12th Grant Boyne, Robert Simpson, Daniel Lowe, Ryan Stewart
D Team 36th Andrew Gibson, Andrew Jackson, Craig Shannon, Duncan McCauley
E Team Andrew Kirkhope, Gerard Mason
A Team 7th Denis Williams, Walter Henderson, William Coyle, Brian Scally
B Team 13th John Oates, Gareth Ellor, John J Duffy, Richard Millar
Scottish Champion, Fionnuala Ross, gave the Senior Women Team a great start when she ran the fastest lap of the day, Avril Mason and Shannon McLellan ran the 2nd and 3rd legs to pick up the Bronze Medal with the B team of Jennifer Martin, Ruth Joss and Amy McLellan combining well to finish 8th.
Young Athletes ( Male)
In the Male Young Athlete Race we saw our A team picking up the Bronze Medal, in the under 13 race Johnny Burns ran away from the rest of the field being the only Under 13 under 9 minutes, next out was Gregor Campbell with a gutsy run from Kasey Fraser to pick up the Bronze Medal.
