Its been a great week again for club members with Chris Bennet and Mark Dry being confirmed as members of Team Scotland for the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast early next year. Mark won bronze in Glasgow 2014 and Chris has been competing at every major championships in recent years. I am sure everyone in the club sends their congratulations to both athletes .
Closer to home the Sports Council of Glasgow presented the club with the club of the month for August at our Crownpoint base just before the AGM of the club.
At the Club AGM Club President present a upbeat report with membership going over 400 for the first time ,healthy finances due to the great work by Liz Burns and athletes competing at all levels.
It was disappointing to see so few members attending the AGM and its essential for all our members to appreciate the efforts a few make to operate our club. Thank you to Leo Lanahan and Jessica Oliver Brydon (nee Bell) who both stepped down as trustees at the AGM. Leo has worked hard over the year to make sure we operate all the child protection procedures correctly and will continue in that role. Jessica was involved in helping us with media requirements.
Welcome to Mark Grant and Tracey Fox (both parents of young athletes ) who have joined ass trustees .We would welcome more as the operation of the club becomes more complex. Any skill you could bring would be great ! See what we need help with at this link and please contact Alex Mackay ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) for more details .
At the AGM we vote on the person who in the previous year who has contributed to the club in any way to present the Paul Richfeld trophy. This was first
presented to the club in 1938 by a East End Business man. The first winner was David Young who won bronze in the 1936 Commonwealth Games in Australia. The list of winners highlight the great work our members have done not only on a club stage but on a national and international stage. After a close vote Alex Mackay was awarded the trophy for his work in development of the infrastructure of the club as we move forward .
