Many of the current club members will see David Wallace officiating at various meetings during the season and may wonder how it started for him. Like many of our helpers he started as a parent of a child.

His son was David Wallace and his many friends will remember him as a great young athlete. What many club’s members will not know David passed away at the start of COVID pandemic – He was one of the many young athletes who did not know they have an under lying heart condition. Cardiac Risk in the young is not as rare as you might expect and it needs support to identify risks. A few weeks ago, the Wallace family (Fiona ,David and Kirsty) organised a very successful race night attended by a few of our club members. The event raised over £5000 to help research and if any club members want to make a donation, we can arrange this.

David was a fine young athlete running 1.57 as a U/17 for 800m ,winning medals at West District Cross Country Championships. He was a part of a very successful 4x400m team which held the Scottish record .As he grew into adult-hood ,he moved away to Aberdeen, having a successful career in the hospitality industry before is untimely death in his early 30’s .

I am sure all club members will take a minute to think of David and remember how hard it must be for his Mum Fiona ,Dad David and his sister Kirsty.
