This weekend saw club members competing in various venues over the British Isles. A number of club members made the trip to Liverpool to compete at the British Cross Country Trails. The highest finishing Shettleston Harrier on the day was Gregor Campbell who was 5th 0 (first Scot) in the Under 15 race with another excellent from Johnny Burns in the under 13 race who finished 6th (2nd Scot). The under 20 Race saw Jamie Burns and Lewis Raeburn testing themselves against top UK runners where they finished 49th and 92nd respectively. Lachlan Oates, running for Scotland, finished 47th in the Senior Mens Race. Katie Burns finished 115th in the Under 11 Girls 2k race.
News from the Irish Cross Country Championships that Fionnuala Ross picked up 3rd place and looks set to represent Ireland at the European Cross Country Championships at Tilburg, well done Fionnuala.
Meanwhile Coatbridge saw the 2018 edition of the Lanarkshire Cross Country Championships. First off was our Under 11 girls. It was great to see 12 of the girls turning out and with excellent runs by everyone. We do not have the results as yet but Katie Woods, Emma Leiper and Amelia Roberts picked up the team bronze medal. Also well done to Chloe Fox, Tia Clark, Emily McKenzie, Imogan Millar, Alicia Taborak, Guin Ofeogbu, Emily Chatham, Rebecca Peacock and Skye Clifford
Matthew Fox lead the boys team in the Under 11’s to the Team bronze medals with Jonathon Hooper and Jay Simpson running their first Cross Country Championships, Daniel McFall, Ruaridh Collins and Matthew Collins also ran. Ethan Ofeogbu, Adam Clifford and Joseph Reilly made up the Under 13 team with Jessica Grant, Erin Orr, Chloe Keenan and Olivia Millar in the Under 13 Girls.
The under 15 girls saw Erin Ellor powering to victory to pick up our first individual title of the day for the club. Kasey Fraser, Theo Carter and Lewis Hunt combined well to pick the team gold in the Under 17 event with Elsie Hollywood in the Under 17 women event.
The Senior Men’s Race saw Daniel Bradford pull away in the last lap to claim victory, with team mate Robert Simpson picking up the bronze. With David Houston and Paul Sorrie making the team to claim the Senior Men Gold . Adam Peters, Brain Robertson, John Oates, Richard Millar and with Joe Haughey, running his first event Cross Country Race, finished the 7.5k Race.

On Friday it was the Glasgow City Chambers for the Annual Sports Council of Glasgow Awards Night. The club picked up the Performance Club of the Year Awards with Liz Burns getting the Highly Recommended Volunteer of the Year Award and Lachlan Oates picking up Highly Recommended International of the Year Award. Well done everyone.
