A much-anticipated event in the calendar and a large squad of Shetts made it over to Arran to help run the Goatfell hill race on Saturday 21st May.

It’s been 2 years since the event took place, but this didn’t deter 106 runners from making it to the start line. Three of our own hill runners, Jessica, Rod Reis and Matty Low took part, making light work of the excellent tourist path up to the summit, all completing the race in under 01:55:00. Lochaber’s Finlay Wild finished in first place, just missing out on the course record by a few seconds. Race organiser Peter Mackie organises the event each year and delegated a variety of tasks to an efficient group of club volunteers who each played their part. Despite a Scotrail strike and reduced ferry crossings, there was a fantastic turn out of spectators and visitors who had decided to make a weekend of it. Our thanks must go to Peter and family for all the organisation which goes on behind the scenes. Thanks also to our enthusiastic volunteers: timekeepers, bakers, marshals and general support crew.
